Sara Alex Mullen

Characterized by bold, expressive strokes and vibrant, intuitive color palettes, Sara’s work reinterprets classic landscapes through a contemporary lens. Guided by instinct and emotional response rather than strict realism, she paints loosely from photographs and impressions gathered during her travels across North America. Working primarily alla prima, Sara employs a dynamic mix of brushes, palette knives, and carving tools to build rich texture and movement, maximizing energy and immediacy in each piece.

A professional artist for over 15 years, Sara’s work is collected across North America and internationally. Her practice reflects a deep commitment to both artistic growth and community engagement. Over the past decade, she has played an active role in the local art scene, founding the New Edinburgh Artist Studio Tour and consistently participating in live painting at local festivals, charities and community events.

Sara’s artistic foundation includes numerous independent courses at the Ottawa School of Art, where she studied under Blair Paul, as well as painting workshops with Gordon Harrison, Sheila Davis, and Richard Claremont. These experiences, combined with years of professional practice, have shaped a confident, evolving body of work that balances technical exploration with expressive freedom.
